Knight Jean de Carrouges returning from war discovers that his neighbor and competitor squire Jacques Le Gris has raped his wife Marguerite de Carrouges. But Le Gris has powerful allies and nobody believes her words, that is why de Carrouges has to appeal to King Charles VI personally. After hearing all the evidence, the king decreed to resolve the conflict by trial by combat. Not only de Carrouges and Le Gris fate depends on outcome of this battle.
